Condoleezza Rice assigns a lot of reading…
Condoleeza Rice teaches this week’s Global Management class at the Stanford GSB for first year MBAs.
Her theme of “institutions and predictability” included cases on Microsoft and the EU, Google in China, Gazprom, and Dubai Ports World. That’s double our usual reading load, but the class arrived well versed and spoke at the top of their game today.
At least those of us who weren’t nervously trying to snap photos of her from awkward angles.
Though this was the first class she’s taught in 8 years, pretty much unanimous opinion was she was an outstanding prof and speaker.
Some of my key takeaways:
- Constantly keep your antenna’s up for unseen factors, once you’re behind the power curve in the media there are few options
- Short term priorities in a foreign country need to be weighed against long term impact. People will remember how you acted
Apparently secret service men scoped out the room before she spoke. I wonder if her celeb status will wind down as she starts teaching a regular undergrad class next quarter.
