Law School vs. Business School
Stanford business school lectures are cancelled today on account of midterms so I went to the law school to check out Capital Markets (LAW 590), taught by award-winning law school prof Joseph Grundfest, former commissioner for the SEC.
Observations:
- Law school distinctly different dynamic from the business school
- Discussion around derivative contracts had no numbers or graphs. Material was on principles, cases and litigation.
- Student questions focused on fundamentals. Very little outward-in comments from ex-bankers/private equity folks around discussion
- Grundfest is pretty compelling
- Remarkably engaging, even from my seat in the backrow, and despite my having covered a significant amount of today’s lecture in other courses
- Should consider more law school classes
- With the law school’s recent switch to the quarter system, business students like me have new opportunities around cross-listing courses. Why not?
